Naming and Shaming Fairness Products

It has long been the history in many asian cultures that 'fairer is more beautiful' and to some it has become a regime to try everything to make the skin shade as light as possible. I believe that everyone is beautiful no matter the skin colour, body shape etc. I was sad to know that this philosophy still exists till today. I found this documentary which shuns fairness creams as being nothing but exploiting the vulnerable peoples insecurities. Youtube link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bVAiP5NMFw&feature=related

I think its important to understand that women (and even men) need to be confident with who they are and what they look like without being sucked into all these 'fairness' products. Don't get me wrong, I have tried a wide variety of products myself and continue to do so, but I wanted to show you some products which dont necessarily make you 'whiter' but even out your skin tone.

Three products I have been applying to actually see whether they really make you 'fairer'

A face cream by VLCC (a famous brand in India)
This has wild turmeric (traditionally known to make your skin tone lighter) and liquorice

It has a thick consistency, and when you apply it, it absorbs well into the skin.
I think that this product definitely made an 'improvement' to my skin complexion but I dont think it made me 'fair' or changed my skin colour
Also, if you dont like liquorice or the smell you wont like this product. I dont like the smell at all and it was hard to have this stuck to your face without washing it off

This is a lotion by LAKME, and also includes SPF 15
This product helped make my skin very smooth and soft. I loved the smell!
Again, I dont think this product maybe my skin 'fairer' just evened out the skin tone and gave me a nice glow

I blogged about this product before in a LAKME review.
This is the full sized tub of the LAKME fair cream.

The texture is somewhat beteen grainy and thick. It is very hard to apply because if you dont work fast enough you end up with 'white' streaks all over your face.
This is a product I wouldn't recommend at all, as you can see i havnt even used much because I found it so hard to work with and it left my face very dry (strange, when its supposed to be a 'cream)
It definitely didnt make me 'fairer' but covered my face in some white hue

I recently discovered these masks when I was shopping. They are by SkinVitals and they have a wide range of masks for different purposes.
I bought the A-White masks because I wanted to really see whether they do what they say which is mainly 'even out skin tone'.

This is quite pricey and honestly I dont think its worth the money. There are far better alternatives which do the job without the $.
First impression- smelt awful! I just wanted to get it off, smelt like burnt rubber :(
After applying it for the recommended time, I removed it, I noticed the texture of my skin had definitely improved BUT I was not 'whiter' 'lighter' and I dont think it evened out my skin tone (after asking a neautral third party for their opinion).

All in all, if you want to invest in expensive fairness creams do your research. It is my belief and countless testing with products myself, fairness creams are not set out to make you 'fairer' (dont get me wrong there may be some fairness creams out there which are making people happy, but sadly I havnt heard of one yet). In the end, companies are trying to exploit the market because people are going to buy their product because they believe that it will provide results that they say. People will go to the extreme to try out products (as seen in the video) that it damages their skin!

I strongly believe that keeping a well balanced diet as well as exercise will keep your skin looking healthy and glowing (it may not mean its 'fair').

What inspired me to write this piece, was the documentary I watched and the countless remarks I have heard about being 'fair'. I think its wrong and no one should feel insecure about their skin colour.

Precision Blending Sponge

Alot of beauty gurus have been raving about this product already, and I have been a bit slow to implement it in my daily foundation routine.

Its called the Precision Blending Sponge, and its supposed to create the 'complete foundation look'. The pointed end is perfect for intricate spots and angles; the rounded end covers large areas of the face. At the back of the product it states  that "this amazing contoured tool has an extra fine suede texture to achieve an ultra-light,streak finish, Non allergic, antibacterial latex sponge."

After using this sponge, I realised what I was missing. It has made applying foundation and councealer so much easier! And you can definitely notice the results!

One tip would be to actully soak the sponge in water so when applying foundation it doesnt end up eating all of your foundation since its already full of water :).

Enjoy!

LAKME Insta Liner Water Resistance Eyeliner

I didn't realise the photograph wasn't picking up the text on the bottle.
I recently got this Lakme liquid eyeliner ordered from India. Don't get confused thinking its a nailpolish (thats what I did!). It's actually a liquid eyeliner, I thought the bottle is quite handy and with the glass bottle, its quite elegant.

Luckily I took a close up so you can see the text on the bottle!

Thats the applicator, to be completely honest, I didnt like the applicator that much. I would much rather prefer to get my own brush and use it. The consistency is really nice and it applies really well. Another problem with the applicator is that when you are applying it because of the product build up on the brush, it tends to get caught up on your lashes which can be rather messy!

I did a few swatches for you to see the way it applies but more importantly the consistency of the product. I love how dark the actual black is, because when you get a few liquid eyeliners, they tend to be quite runny so it ends up being not as dark as you would like it.

LUSH Haul!

It had been a while since I had visited/ let alone purchased anything from LUSH! So I was so excited when I finally treated myself to some goodies.

I purchased a Hair Doctor and a Sparkle Gift Set. And ofcourse it came with its own LUSH times!

Absolutely LOVE LUSH!

Hair Doctor
A Pre-Wash Scalp and Hair Conditioner

You apply this all over your hair/head before washing your hair and you leave it on for around 20 minutes.

It comes in a good sized tub but you have to remember to keep this product refridgerated!

Absolutely love the pepperminty smell. This is a product I swear by. Last year I had a lot of hair fall, I came across this product and I have to say it literally saved my hair. As soon as you put it on you will feel the cool soothing effects of the mint on your scalp. Your scalp feels amazing after you have used this product!!

Sparkle Gift

Contains a Sweetie Pie Shower Jelly
Two products I havn't tried in a while!

My Sweetie Pie leaked a bit, but not to worry :)

Looks gorgeous with the deep purple colour and the purple/blue sparkles. It smells just like jelly beans! Very fruity and sweet (no wonder they call it sweety pie :P )

Shimmy Shimmy

Leaves little glitters all over the place you rub it over. It has a very soothing scent.
I probably wont be able to wear this all over my body, probably just some areas to make them glow!

Best bit about purchasing a LUSH gift pack you get 10% discount off your next purchase!

LAKME Sun Expert Collection

I recently asked someone to bring over some Lakme products, especially targeted to help soothe your skin after it has been exposed to the harsh rays of the sun.

After living in Australia for so long, my skin has continually tanned and to such an extent that you can see a stark difference between the colour of my arms and my legs. And even after winter passes by, the tan doesnt fade, so I was delighted when I heard about Lakmes After Sun range.

Face Wash (both of them are face washes, but I got a mini version as well to carry in my bag if Ive been sittin in the sun too long)

The product purports to:

  • Specially formulated with UV filters and anti-tan skin soothing ingredients
  • Cleanses and soothes sun exposed skin
  • Deep cleanses each pore
  • Infused with cucumber and lemon grass
  • Protects and soothes skin from common forms of skin irritation post sun exposure, leaving it soft, tingling fresh and clean.

Lotion

Product purports to:

  • Complete skin defense against harmful UV rays
  • Keeps skin hydrated
  • The radiation blocker SPF 30, blocks up to 90% of the harmful UVB rays.
  • PA++ blocks out harmful UVA rays that cause melanoma, darkening of the melanin in the skin and other skin problems.
  • Packed with lemon grass and cucumber extracts that moisturize and lighten the skin
  • Nourishes skin, leaving it even-complexioned and glowing

Skin Lightening Gel

Product purports to:

  • Light, cooling, moisturising gel that fights harsh damage
  • Lightens sun tan, uneven skin tone and corrects blemished skin
  • Packed with cucumber and lemon grass extracts
  • Provides total hydration, leaving skin radiant at all times

Thats the consistency of the lotion, its quite nice but not as creamy as I would like it to be.

I have only started using the products, so I dont think I am in a position to write a review about it. I will do a review later after using the products to the extent where I know whether or not I am seeing results.

Also a BIG thankyou for those who voted for me for the competition, the results will be released on Monday, fingers crossed!

Revlon Custom Eyes Pallette

I jsut recently got this Revlon Pallette, with autumn approaching I wanted something which I can wear witht

The back shows you where to place the colours

This is the look inside, its creative how they added a 'woven' effect to each of the shades.

This is the pigmentation of the colours.
To be honest, it looks ok on my fingers but using a brush it doesnt work so well. I have to go back a few times for it to actually cover my lid.

Pigmentation of the last shade.

Overall the product is good for a quick eye look, as all the shades are in one pallette. But the one downfall of the product is the pigmentation (but maybe its supposed to be that way? Who knows!)

A quick tip: when picking up the colour, brush it against the same direction of the lines in the shade (horisontal or vertical) is actuall makes a difference to how much product you pick up!

My rating: I would give this product a 3/5 stars

Keep smiling :)

New Shoes!!!

comfortable sized heels!

comfortable zipper!

Nice ruffle detailing!

Bought these new shoes a few days ago! Absolutely love them, I was looking for a pair of booties for a while as the cold weather is approaching and I wanted something 'stylish' yet practical, so it can keep my feet warm. I love the cute ruffle detailing! It really adds a bit of formality to the show!
